Staying fit and healthy is an important part of maintaining good mental and physical fitness at any age. If a customer has an interest and ability to participate in local physical activities, our support workers are able to support them and be involved. Or perhaps you may want support to do some simple exercises at home.

BENEFITS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

A healthy active lifestyle helps stimulate the brain and assists in staying independent. It can also be immensely enjoyable.

Physical activity helps to:

  • Reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases

    Aid management of active problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol

    Improve the ability to function and stay independent in cases where people have lung disease or arthritis

    Reduce symptoms of depression and pain

    Improve balance and prevents falls

    We encourage and support you or your family member to take part in simple, healthy activities, which may include something as basic as walking or dancing. Of course, participation in any activity will depend on the customer’s choice and abilities. Our Coordinator will discuss your preferences with you as part of your care and support plan.

COGNITIVE STIMULATION

We believe that mental stimulation through brain teasers, puzzles and games can keep our customers more alert and happier with their lives.

Brains can continue to be stimulated with simple activities such as crossword puzzles, card games, Sudoku, tic-tac toe and scrabble. Choosing to do some brain activities several times a week can keep our minds sharp and able to function at a higher level. Sometimes we just need a bit of encouragement or someone to engage with us in order to try new activities or to revisit old ones. It’s never too late!

At Solus we create a care and support plan with you that can include time for stimulation and fun as part of your homecare.

  • Skills to implement behavioural programming

    Skills to implement life skills and social skills programming

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    Undergone an extensive interview and reference check process

    Have passed a criminal reference (Vulnerable Sector Screening) check

    Hold First Aid and CPR Certification

    Completed post secondary education

    Minimum 2 years of related experience

    Servicing senior home health care in Hamilton, Niagara, Cambridge, Halton Peel, Toronto, and Durham
