Alzheimer’s Care

We know how important it is to provide person centred care and support to all the individuals we support, particularly those suffering from cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease. Most people with this progressive condition prefer to remain in their own home for as long as possible, rather than move to residential care or nursing homes.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is not an inevitable consequence of aging. It is caused by a physical disease which progressively attacks the brain. The symptoms include:

  • Memory loss

  • Difficulty with speech and understanding

  • Periods of mental confusion

  • Changes in behaviour and emotional responses

  • Problems with movement

  • Increased apathy

  • Loss of confidence

However, with the right care and support people with Alzheimer’s disease can continue to live well in their own homes, avoiding the need for residential care or nursing homes.
